Orhan
Pamuk in Town!
Noted
Turkish author Orhan Pamuk will be coming to Washington during the
2nd week in March as the guest of Georgetown University and Folger
Library. As part of his program, he will deliver a lecture entitled
"The East, the West, and the Novels" at Georgetown University's
Intercultural Center Auditorium at 5:30 pm on Thursday, March 14th.

Yeni
Türkü Conquered Atlanta
The Turkish Times-Famous Turkish pop
band Yeni Turku was in a concert in Atlanta on February 7 th which was
organized by Turkish Student Association of Georgia Institute of Technology
(TSO) and supported by ATAA.
Derya Koroglu
and his very well known band performed their old and new songs in "Under
the Coach" while hundreds of young Turks from every age group were dancing
during the band's performance. This was second stop of Yeni Turku in the
United States. The band performed in New York City, Atlanta and Dallas
and the concerts were organized by Saduman Gurbuz of Dallas and ATAA's
Treasurer, Vural Cengiz. Young members of Turkish Student Organization:
Ilkay Yavrucuk, Utku Diril and Sermet Akbay congratulated by both community
members and the band members after the well-organized concert.
Aylin
Bilgütay named 2002 Presidential Scholar candidate
The Turkish Times-Aylin Bilgutay,
a graduating senior at Strath Haven High School in Wallingford, PA has
been named as one of the 2,600 candidates in the 2002 Presidential Scholars
Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 2.8 million students
expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2002. Aylin is
the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Nihat Bilgutay of Wallingford, PA.
Presidential
scholars are selected for their exceptional performance on either the
College Board SAT or the ACT Assessment. Further consideration is based
on student's essays, self-assessments, descriptions of activities, school
recommendations, and school transcript. A distinguished panel of educators
will review these submissions and select 500 semifinalists in early April.
