The West’s Iran Policies
M. Orhan Tarhan - President George W. Bush recently included Iran in his list of "Axis of Evil". Yet The European Union (EU) is trying to establish friendly relations with the elected president Khatami of Iran and the president of the Republic of Turkey has just paid a visit to Iran. A question comes to mind: Is this any way to run the war against terrorists? What kind of alliance do we have against terror in the so-called West? More

World Cup success a lesson for Turkish politicians?
Ralph Boulton, ANKARA, June 19 (Reuters) - Turks are hoping some of the confidence and teamwork shown by their winning World Cup team might rub off on their politicians, dithering and squabbling on the road to economic salvation and EU membership. More

A Presidential versus a Parliamentary Turkey
Bruce Fein
- Shouldn't the Republic of Turkey consider swapping its parliamentary for a presidential scheme of government? Decisive action is pivotal for Turkey on several fronts: accession to the European Union and the unilateral EU candidacy of the Greek Cypriot administration in the south; the war against PKK and first cousin terrorist organizations; maintainance of secularism from hijacking by Islamic extremists; privatization; official corruption; human rights and police reforms; and, hostile or semi-hostile neighbors, such as Iran, Iraq, Armenia, and Saudi Arabia. Islam Needs Reformation and Turks Should Lead the Way
Ali Ferda Sevin, June 20, 2002 - 9/11 became a word in our lexicon after some fanatic Arabs hijacked and crashed passenger planes into The World Trade Center and The Pentagon on September 11, 2001. They did this to please God and achieve martyrdom we were told by Osama bin Laden in a videotaped boast. s of Islamic schools called madrassas. More

The "Secular Muslim" State
Georgie Anne Meyer, The Orange County Register, June 23, 2002, Ankara, Turkey - Across the Middle East and the entire Muslim world, one deeper question underlies every dilemma of terrorism, of stability, of the future: How can countries and societies be formed that will encourage a healthy Islam and reject radical and extremist Islam? LETTERS

Open Letter to C-Span Book Notes Producers
YUKSEL OKTAY
Subject: C-Span Program with Samantha Power
To: "C-SPAN"

I am writing this letter while listening to the C-Span book review talk-show between your Brian Lamb and reporter Samantha Power which started at 3:00 am Monday morning in Istanbul where over 65,000 Armenians live peacefully among Turks. I am sure Mr. Hrant Dink, the publisher of

AGOS, a weekly newspaper in Turkish and Armenian will have something to say about this incredible presentation, since it is an insult to them as well as to Turks everywhere. It is amazing how the mythical Armenian Genocide is being presented totally as a one sided event and with omissions and distortions of facts.

With all due respects to C-Span, I would like to present the following facts which I have been able to gather from many books written by Americans and others, including a new book a book by Judge Sam Weems that came out in May 2002 "Secrets of A 'Christian' Terrorist State Armenia" that honestly and brilliantly contradicts what Samantha Power has been telling us and to Brian Lamb, proving that the Armenian genocide is a lie.

1. I first listened to Samantha Power talk about Genocide and review of her book at, of all places, at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC on March 26. A summary of her presentation is given below, which was also sent to Samantha Power, but did not bother to respond.

2. I am sure Mr. Brian Lamb had good intentions in inviting Samantha Power, but I am also sure that he did not realize the reporter was using a genocide that actually took place in Bosnia to advance the claims for a mythical Armenian genocide that never took place. Samantha Power never told Brian Lamb that the Armenians had actually started killing Ottoman citizens with the help and support of the Russians, biggest enemy of Turkey at the time and also of the Armenians, to create their own state on lands where they were a minority. The Armenians were not killed or massacred as Samantha Power claims, but those in the war zones were re-located to other Ottoman lands, not to deserts as Samantha Power claimed. Hundreds and thousands of these people actually migrated to European countries and to United States.

3. Henry Morgenthau, a rich American Jew, never left Istanbul (Samantha Power cleverly refers to Istanbul as Constantinople, forgetting that the town became Istanbul in 1453), and used false reports invented by his Armenian help with the sole purpose of persuading the US Government to enter the first world war against Germany. Samantha Power never mentions Admiral Bristol, the US High Commissioner in the Ottoman Empire and later the US Ambassador, whose reports to Washington contradicted Morgentau's statements. These are presented in many books, including Prof. Heath Lowry's book about Henry Morgenthau.

4. Samantha Power mentioned that the Christian Missionaries came to his office and told him about the massacre of Armenians by the Ottomans. The role of the Armenian Church and the Christian Missionaries in the Armenian uprisings and their support of nationalism among the Armenian nationals of the Ottoman Empire is still being debated. Samantha Power tells us only one side of the terrible events. These are well documented in Samuel Weems's book and in many lectures of Prof. Justin McCarthy, which are never mentioned in Samantha Power book or lectures. It is respectfully requested that Samuel Weems be invited to your program to present to your listeners and viewers the truth about the mythical Armenian genocide and the findings of his book.

If I may of any assistance, please do not hesitate to call me at [phone number withheld], or through my E-mail address, yoktay@ada.net.tr.

Respectfully,

Rep. Frank Pallone Supports an Illegitimate Regime
TO:The Honorable Frank Pallone
United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative Pallone, It is with great regret that I have learned about your plans to once again host Naira Melkoumian, who claims to represent the aggressive, chauvinist regime established on Azerbaijan's occupied regions by Armenia's military with support of Russian hardliners.

Using the premises of Congress for endorsing a representative of the regime, which openly prophesizes use of violence, has been engaged in ethnic cleansing and proliferation of arms in the region, is a disgrace for this fundamental institution of American democracy. This is even more so in light of Armenia's tradition of political terrorism at home and abroad.

The policies of Armenian aggressors are contrary to American values of diversity and multiculturalism and have been the main obstacle to advancing the U.S. national interests in the Caucasus.

In fact, Armenia's militaristic regime has become the main bridgehead of Russia's military presence in the South Caucasus and, as our own State Department has recently confirmed by sanctioning the Armenians, who are helping the Iranian fundamentalists to acquire weapons of mass destruction.

Therefore, it is hard for me to understand how a U.S. member of Congress can support the illegitimate regime represented by

Ms. Melkoumian in contradiction to America's foreign policy. This frustration is widely shared by all members of the Azerbaijan Society of America, Turkish and Pakistani Americans, and a growing number of others.

Sincerely,

Tomris Azeri
President
