The
Turkish Times - The Washington Post published
a story on September 15, 2002 detailing the charges leveled against
4 Arab-Americans arrested in Detroit and accused of operating a terror
cell. The indictment against the four "alleges that the men, two of
whom have been in custody since the Sept. 17 raid, operated an underground
support unit to collect guns and intelligence, recruit members and produce
false documents for "the purpose of engaging in violent attacks against
persons and buildings within the territory of Jordan, Turkey and the
United States." More

"We pray for our fellow Americans"
The
Turkish Times - In a letter sent to U.S.
President George W. Bush on the occasion of Sept 11, ATAA leaders expressed
Turkish-American community's solidarity with their fellow Americans.
ATAA President Dr. Orhan Kaymakcalan and Chairman, Board of Trustees,
Dr. Ulku Ulgur told President Bush that the American-led fight against
international terrorism " is not a fight against religion, but against
those who have hijacked Islam in the name of evil." More
Turkish fans might have made bigger
impression than team

game this week, but local Turkish-Americans could be glad about this
much: They had a heck of a party while their run lasted.About 400 Turks
live in Indianapolis. More than 10 times that many came from Turkey
and around the country to see their team's first appearance in the World
Basketball Championship. More
PM Ecevit refuses coalition partner's
call for new government
Associated Press - September 11, 2002, ANKARA, Turkey - Embattled
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit on Wednesday turned down a coalition partner's
demand for a new government, saying the move would hurt Turkey ahead
of November elections. Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz on Tuesday
called for Ecevit to step aside, threatened to withdraw his own party
from the government, and later called on nationalists to leave the three-party
coalition and for a new government to be formed. More
Foundation of Turkish Veterans Condemns
KDP Support for PKK

- The public support that Kurdish Democratic Party (KDP) has extended
to the terrorist Kurdish organization PKK has been condemned by the
Foundation of the Turkish Veterans. PKK (or KADEK under its newly assumed
name) is on the U.S. State Department's list of "international terror
organizations" for the last ten years. Its leader Abdullah Ocalan has
been captured by Turkish special teams in 1999 as he was leaving the
Greek Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, with a Greek-Cypriot passport in his
pocket. More
U.S. Labeling of Group in China as
Terrorist Is Criticized
Erik Eckholm, The Washington Post, BEIJING, Sept.
12 - The Bush administration's decision to brand as terrorist an
obscure Muslim group with roots in western China has been greeted with
skepticism by many Western diplomats and scholars. They say the Americans
have offered little hard evidence for applying the label, and seem more
concerned with softening Chinese opposition to a possible attack on
Iraq than with the potential threat posed by the group.

Turks. Fans of the southeastern European national team are here, they
are ready to celebrate and everyone is invited. As soon as members of
the American Turkish Association of Indiana, Inc. (ATAIN) learned that
their national team made the world tournament in Indianapolis by coming

Oz Bengur to Turkish Americans: "Thank You!"
The Turkish Times - In the 2nd Congressional
District of Maryland, Baltimore County Executive Dutch Ruppersberger
landed the Democratic nomination, with 32,307 or 50.2% of the vote narrowly
defeating Turkish-American Oz Bengur's who got 23,436 votes or 36.4%
of the vote. Oz sent the following letter to the Turkish American community.
