Russia to Turkey: Shut Down Chechens
The Associated Press, ANKARA, Turkey (AP), October
30 - Russia has asked Turkey to shut down
Chechen foundations here, saying they were in contact with them during
the Moscow theater siege, a Turkish news agency said Wednesday. Moscow
also said the Chechen charities in Turkey finance the rebels, who have
been fighting Russian forces for the last three years in the breakaway
republic, the Anatolia news agency said. More

Dear ATAA Members and Friends, As we send our congratulations to the
Turkish American community on the occasion of October 29, 2002, the
79th Anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic, I would
like all of us to consider some important concepts espoused by modern
Turkey's founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, that I believe act as beacons
for both the Assembly and much of the modern world: Secularism and
Progressiveness.
